Happy Easter

Two women claim to have written the Prayer above. I am still trying to verify who was the first to write this poem.
Rev. Bonnie Miller, cousin of Shirley Kozak claims Shirley wrote the poem in 1990. Shirley Kozak is from Stuttgart Germany. She used it in the Chapel system for years.

I received an email from Charlene Dickerson during Easter time of 2003 claiming that she wrote the main part of the poem in 1997 after being inspirted by God to write it. She claims to own the copy write to the poem. You can view her poem on her website by CLICKING HERE.

I first read the poem on Annie's Easter pages in 1998, and that is the year I first made this page for Just 4 Kids Magazine. I remember having a jar full of Jelly Beans to decorate the Christian bookstore we owned in 1995. Using Jelly Beans during Easter has been a tradition for many years. Today, due to the internet the popularity of this prayer used at Easter time has spread around the world.

I received the interesting letter below in January 2004.
"I read your note about who wrote the Jelly Bean Prayer that it was created in the 90's and was a little shocked. My mother was a CCD teacher for many years and used this prayer every year during her teaching days, this was back in the 70's and 80's. She remembers having this prayer passed on to her by other teachers with no author mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if this dated back to when the jelly bean was invented.

I remember this vividly growing up because my father will sneak out all the black jelly beans and we would never have enough for gifts to our friends.

May you always fly with Christ,
Mrs. Tammy Yoder"

Did you know that there are christian meanings for different colors. There are usually 8 colors of jelly beans.
The meanings are:
Red ~ the blood of Jesus that He shed.
Black ~ Our sin, His death, the final hour.
White ~ Pure and holy. The Blood's cleansing power.
Green ~ New Life that His death brings.
Purple ~ The Royal color, A reminder that Jesus is King of Kings.
Orange ~ is for the Holy Spirit Fire that glows,
Pink ~ is for the Infilling of the Holy Spirit that your life shows.
Yellow ~ is for the Joy & Celebration that Easter Brings.

CRAFT IDEA:

For an Easter Project we fill clean empty jars with Jelly Beans and put the Jelly Bean Prayer on the outside of the jars. This makes a great Easter gift to give to friends, relatives, elderly people, and to make for a Sunday School Project. You can use small baby food jars or huge pickle jars, or any size in between.

Click HERE for Jelly Bean Prayer Page to print & cut jar wraps.

If you have a color printer the Jelly Beans on this page make a pretty cover to wrap around your jar.
